Fashion's Revolution

 chloe
The silhouette for this spring/summer is almost revolutionary. Not only have we be used to the shortest of shorts and mini of mini skirts, but we’ve also become accustomed to spayed-on jeans over years, yet spring/summer 2011 marks a new way to look at your body. The tight skirts, shorts and dresses have had their hey-day and now comes the new shapes, and it’s all about covering your body, not flaunting it.

 Marc Jacobs
Our wardrobe should be filled with key essentials; wide legged trousers, blouses, ballet pumps, palazzo pants, midiskirts and buttoned-up shirts. It all began with Marc Jacobs’ 70s inspired collection, which included midiskirts and flares. Then came Derek Lams’ blouses, Celine’s slouchy trousers and Chloe’s ballet inspired midis.
Throughout the spring/summer collections they ooze sex appeal; cut out dresses, see through white chiffon and daring slits. However, shapes on he whole saw a radical departure of short hemlines and low necklines. This season we’re seeing high necklines, knee length hem lines or below and long sleeves.

 Jil Sander
This shift in what is considered sexy has been beautifully explained by womenswear all-star Erdem. He has been quoted saying about how Hollywood women are now dressing, saying: “There’s an intelligence to them, they’re smart women. And there is definitely a certain sexiness in keeping something back.”
If you like the idea of covering up this season, why not check out my favourite pieces, that are sure to see you through the summer?
