According to the 2010 Gamers' Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, the most recognizable video-game character in the world is 'Pac-Man'.
"Pac-Man" was an arcade game developed by Namco, first released in Japan May 22, 1980 then licensed to Midway games in North America.
The game became a social phenomenon, selling ancillary merchandise and spinning-off an animated television series, top-ten music single and more than 30 officially licensed games.
The player controls Pac-Man through a maze, eating 'pac-dots'. When all dots are eaten, Pac-Man is taken to the next stage. Four ghosts ('Blinky', 'Pinky', 'Inky' and 'Clyde') roam the maze, trying to catch Pac-Man. If a ghost touches Pac-Man, a life is lost. When all lives have been lost, the game ends.
In 2004, Crystal Sky Pictures announced they were producing a theatrical film adaption titled "Pac-Man: The Movie", combining live-action and special effects.
