"Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars" is an upcoming game for the Nintendo DS developed by Rockstar Leeds in conjunction with Rockstar North, due for release, March 2009.
It is the tenth title in the "Grand Theft Auto" series and the fourth title released on a Nintendo platform.Premise of the story revolves around gangsters, with players assuming the role of 'Huang Lee' a member of the 'Triads', who must deliver his late father's 'Yu Jian', a family heirloom sword, to his uncle 'Wu Lee'. But Huang is ambushed along the way, and he must not only recover the sword, but avenge his father's assassination in the process.
"Chinatown Wars" is structured differently than previous games in the series. Instead of having a behind-the-player camera, "Chinatown Wars" uses a 360 degrees rotatable camera similar to the "Grand Theft Auto II" top-down view, with cel-shaded polygons and black borders.
"Chinatown" also contains a drug dealing 'mini-game', allowing players to push six types of drugs around the city, making a profit by recognizing market conditions/demands based on geography. Street drugs include heroin, cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, LSD and downers.
"We wanted to have a drug-dealing mini-game in lots of the GTA games," said Rockstar creative VP Dan Houser.
"Nintendo wanted us to make GTA...they didn't want us to make a GTA for kids.."
