Azure Thing

Elvis's were suede; Carrie's were silk. What are your BLUE SHOES made of?

Check out these fabulous designs, from the ubiquitous (the lone pair of Manolos in that dreamy penthouse walk-in closet in the SATC movie) to the obscure.

At right, the now iconic jeweled Manolo Blahnik Something Blue cobalt satin pump, with crystal broach detail on vamp. Go to neimanmarcus.com to purchase.

Christian Louboutin Nuit d'Ete suede lattice peep-toe platform sling back, available at Barneys New York.

Couture Carrie is absolutely enamored of Bruno Frisoni's two-tone taffeta ruffle sandal. Photo courtesy

Now, for the glam gladiator: the Paul and Joe turquoise triple-buckle suede sandal/bootie. This is my favorite type of shoe: the hybrid. It happily splits the difference between summer and winter. Wear these Paul & Joe
creations now with your white Philip Lim sundress or, come fall, with opaque Wolfords and a chic YSL wool suit. This photo and next via French Vogue.
Another tantalizing cerulean stunner? This Moschino zip-front gathered satin stiletto. Couture Carrie has several pairs of Moschino pumps and can attest that they are not only comfortable but quite durable as well.
If you tend to shy away from stilettos, perhaps you will be drawn to this Irregular Choice Princess blue patent flat. Loving the slim straps and double buckle detail! Go to http://www.irregularchoicestore.co.uk/ to buy.
Mosaic madness for your tootsies: Missoni printed-fabric pointed flats. Go to luckybreaksonline.com to get a sweet discount on these ones!
If baby blue is more your thing, opt for these Irregular Choice Sky Fox leather heels with unicorn print. So cute! And fyi, darlings, this rather obscure U.K. brand is a favorite of Zooey Deschanel!

THAT'S TOUGH!

It's official: fashion is a bully. From Carrie's S&M-esque Dior sandals, ubiquitous in the SATC movie, to studded cuffs and shoulder-padded jackets, the current trend is FIERCE!

Photo above from the New York Times Pulse online: Rodarte cat-claw gloves, $500 at Colette in Paris and Dover Street Market in London. Mara Hoffman hand-crocheted cover-up, $400 by special order, (212) 505-3020. Bernhard Willhelm by Linda Farrow sunglasses, $150 at Oak. Peaked-shoulder jacket, $1,395 at Maison Martin Margiela. Givenchy gladiator boots, $950 at Edon Manor. Padded silk radzimir top, $3,250, and lace-up pants, $2,975, at Balenciaga.

At upper left: Alessandro Dell'Acqua moiré stiletto with PVC, patent leather and astrakhan detail.
At right: Yves Saint Laurent steel bracelet. Note: best when worn in pairs - one on each wrist, a la Wonder Woman!

SATC Roundup

I feel a sort of moral obligation to critique my iconic (albeit fictional) namesake's fashion choices . . .

While we mere [stateside] mortals will have to wait until tomorrow to witness the resurrection of HBO’s wildly popular TV series on the big screen, fashion insiders have already shopped the pun-laden, Manolo-filled Carrie Collection.

WWD gave the film’s fashion a lukewarm review on Friday, citing Carrie’s schizophrenic style: “For half of the film she comes off as a polished, uberfashionable grown-up; the other half, she's the quirky, experimental fashion trailblazer/victim.”

Indeed, the pictures tell the same story. The former failings are embodied in the pajamas, white booties and oversize fur getup donned by the main character in the snowy scene pictured at the left. The latter version (and the Carrie many gals aspire to emulate) is encapsulated by the chic black and fun floral ensembles shown opposite the fashion disaster.

For the full WWD article, go to: http://wwd.com/issue/article/125153?page=0. Photos: James Devaney/WIREIMAGE. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts and add my own to the mix . . . just one more day!
