Jackson's "Tintin" Targets "Destination Moon"

Producer/director Peter Jackson has confirmed that the third CGI "Adventures of Tintin" feature for DreamWorks, will be "Destination Moon", incorporating the followup story "Explorers On The Moon", based on the "Tintin" illustrated books by Belgian artist/writer Georges "Hergé" Remi.

Meanwhile, director Steven Spielberg's $130 million-budgeted motion capture 3D feature "Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn", based on a screenplay by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, adapts the "Tintin" stories "The Crab with the Golden Claws", "The Secret of the Unicorn" and "Red Rackham's Treasure".

"Unicorn" will be set to orchestration by "Stars Wars". "Indiana Jones", "Superman" composer John Williams, with Jackson's New Zealand-based VFX company Weta Digital providing the computer animation.

First reported by Sneak Peek.Ca in a scoop November 2006, Spielberg's plan to adapt the "Tintin" adventures, specifically "The Secret Of The Unicorn" and "Red Rackham's Treasure" was greenlit January 2009, as the first of a series of 3D motion capture films.

Spielberg's "Unicorn" will depict a first encounter between 'Tintin' (Jamie Bell) and 'Captain Haddock' (Andy Serkis) and their discovery of a clue to the treasure of the Captain's ancestor 'Sir Francis Haddock'. They set out to find the fortune accompanied by bumbling 'Detectives Thompson and Thomson' (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost).

Cast also includes Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook, for producer Kathleen Kennedy and executive producers Nick Rodwell, Stephane Sperry and Ken Kamins.

"The Adventures of Tintin", a series of 24 books, has sold over 200 million copies, translating into 70 languages.

Sony will release "Unicorn" early November 2011 in Continental Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and India. Paramount will distribute the film in Asia, New Zealand, the UK and all other English speaking territories, including North America, December 23, 2011.

Montreal-based games developer Ubisoft will release an "Adventures Of Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn" video game to coincide with the release of the film.
